What does it cost to run the race?

Other than putting in a few miles each week the cost of the race see the chart at the bottom of this page for a complete breakdown on prices.

What sort of changes did you make from last years race?

With the growth in the race, changes always need to be made. After last years race we sent out a survey and received great feedback. Enough feedback to start out this year with the following adjustments.

There will be NO delay in starting the race this year unless severe weather is imenant. Last year we had 356 late registrations so we are encouraging you to register early and also arrive early.

A Whole heck of a lot more parking is now available right near and on the golf course and it is easier to access.

We have increased the number of porta johns to a minimum of 30 at the race site and will have bathrooms available inside the resort also to use.

Your bib is your golf pass this year. Printed on the bib will be your pass. When you want to golf in 2011 bring your bib, the course will stamp it that you have redeemed your 18-holes, and will return your bib back to you.

We will have officers directing traffic and additional ways into the course on BOTH major highways farther out from the course so that back-ups will be lessened or eliminated.

There will again be a large tent and the golf course just built a huge pole barn that will also be available for eating, the change is less tables, more walking area in both the tent and the barn.

What sort of awards will you be giving out?

We have decided to "go big or go home" and so this year we will be:
1) Handing out finisher medals to all participants who cross the finish line
2) Awarding the top male and female finisher in each race a $250 cash prize, and crystal cube trophy.
3) Awarding the masters male and female finisher in each race a crystal cube trophy.
4) Awarding the top three male and female finishers in thirteen different age group awards

Can I register and pick up my packet the morning of the race?

Yes, you can do both, but last year we had 350+ people register between Thursday and the morning of the race so we encourage you to make it to one of our packet pick-up locations at Dick's Sporting Goods on Wednesday October 20th in Grandville (3660 RiverTown Parkway ) from 4pm - 9pm or at Dick's Sporting Goods on Thursday October 21st in Kentwood (5118 28th SE) from 4pm - 9pm. You can also pick up your packets at Candlestone on Friday October 22nd (the day before the race) or race morning...just show up early on race morning. We will start handing out packets and also registration will begin at 6am and ending 10 minutes prior to each race. This year we have moved registration ONLY to the main entrance of the golf course where you can also pick up your packet if you register race morning, everyone else who has pre-registered you will will be able to pick up your packet outside under the tents.

Will strollers and joggers be allowed?

Yes. We encourage those that want to push their children in a stroller or jogger to participate, but remember that the 5k course is 95% on the golf course and the grass will slow you down and some areas maybe a bit bumpy. The 10k course is about 95% on paved roads and paths, with the last stretch on the golf course. In any case, the course is very much wide enough to accommodate competitive runners, those looking to do their first race and those that are bringing their family members to the race.

May I bring my dog or other animals to run with me?

No.

Will you cap this event?

Because of the expected size of this year's event we will cap total participant levels at 3,000. We encourage you to register early to avoid missing a pretty cool race!

What hotels are available in the area?

Candlestone Golf Resort has a 24 room hotel on-site with special rates. To book your room today call 616-794-1580 or go to www.candlestone.com

Can I change events after I have signed-up?

Yes, but please try to ensure that you have emailed that you want to change events by October 15th. If you decide the race morning, we will accommodate, but it is easier if we have it ahead of time.

Will I be able to see my results after the race?

Yes. Race results will be posted shortly after each event and also later that day online.

If I want to volunteer to help how do I go about doing that?

We would encourage volunteers to reach out to us as soon as possible so that we can ensure that you have an area that you would like to help out in for this year's race. You can do so by going to this link and registering to be a volunteer.

What sort of support will you provide the participants in the areas of water/aid, etc?

Two water/aid stations will be set up on the 5K course with volunteers passing you cups as you run or walk by. On the 10K course another two aid stations will be set up again with volunteers to pass you cups as you run or walk by.

Metro Health Sports Medicine will be on hand with staff members to assist in any injuries, or medical related questions. In addition, an ambulance will be on site, with one on-call for transport to the closest medical facility.

What about parking?

We have made some drastic changes to parking this year to accommodate everyone finding a parking spot fast and easily this year. Check out our parking section for maps and more details.

What do we get for registering for the race?

Each participant in the 5k/10k will receive:

1) A wicked tech shirt (fitted for women and standard for men)
2) Finisher medal after crossing the finish line
3) 18-Holes of Golf for 2011
4) NIKE Golf Ball with the race logo on it
5) Post race food after the race including burgers, chicken, desserts, salads and more.

Are there group discounts available?

Yes. For a family of 4 or more a $2 registration discount can be applied to each registration. All registrations must be mailed together in the same envelope and with payment to apply for discount.

For a group of 10 or more you may take $2 off each registration and all registrations must be mailed in the same envelope with payment. You may also make the 11th registration free. i.e. register 10 at a $2 discount and get the 11th free. All other registrations above that 11th one can take the $2 discount off their registration, but again all registrations must be sent in same envelope.

Will there be late registration?

Yes. As long as we do not hit our 3,000 cap by race morning you will be able to register online until Wednesday October 20th and then online registration closes at noon that day. You will be able to register at Candlestone Golf Resort through race morning till 10 minutes prior to the race. We will close registration 10 minutes prior to each race no matter what. Please note that race day registration will be conducted at the front desk of the resort. You may also register at our packet pick-up that will take place Wednesday October 20th at Dick's Sporting Goods in Grandville and on Thursday October 21st at Dick's Sporting Goods in Kentwood. You may also register Friday during the day at Candlestone Golf Resort or as mentioned above race morning starting at 6am.

Would you consider the course a PR (personal record) course?

With any race that is not on all paved roads (5k course) it will be tough to get a PR, but you will find the 10k course is a pretty amazing course if you pace yourself you will do well. 95% of the 10k course is on paved roads and paths with the last stretch on the golf course, the 5k course is almost completely on the golf course so running in cleats is permitted for tracktion, but regular running shoes are fine and even barefoot will be allowed this year.

Will this be a chip timed race?

Yes. There will be a start and finish mat for accurate timing.

Do you have maps of the course?

Yes. You may find both the 5K and 10K course maps here.

Will my registration fee be going to help a local charity?

Yes. We have selected the Mentor 1 program here in the area. The program finds mentors for children in the local area, and just alone in the West Michigan area there are nearly 40,000 kids needing mentors.

Will there be available bathrooms for me to use?

Yes. We have learned our lesson from last year and will have a minimum of 30 porta johns this year along with restrooms available in the resort. Depending on numbers as we draw close to race day we will increase the number of porta johns if need be.

What happens if it rains?
